Lienert Vineyards Estate Museum Release Roussanne 2020

We're very fortunate to have a limited Museum Release of this textural white from the Western Ridge of the Barossa, exclusive to Artisans of Barossa.

A classic southern Rhone white variety, it has become the first white wine produced by Lienert Vineyards. It is a delicious drink with complex stone fruits and herbal tea. On the white wine-style spectrum, it sits somewhere between a Chardonnay and a Semillon, with evocative notes similar to some of the great white Rhone blends.

Medium to light yellow colour, bright, suggesting barrel involvement, which is backed up by the bouquet which is toasty and developed, mellowing nicely, with savoury flavours on palate confirming that it's a wine with the nuttiness and forward character of a barrel-fermented wine. The oak is very subtle. The finish is very dry and appetisingly savoury, also soft and easy going. A dry white of body, richness and presence, but also subtlety, the finish lingering long. A light tannin grip adds the final touch. It would be a good food wine, with poultry for example, roast chicken.

I love these Lienert labels. They ooze shelf appeal. Little gold lightning bolts adorn this bottle - clear glass, a black label and gold highlights draw the eye. Smart wine this too.

The second production of this Roussanne, albeit the 2019 produced only a meagre 30 bottles. 

There's a softly softly approach about it as it builds momentum nicely. Scents of honeycomb, honeysuckle, slithered almonds, and yellow stonefruit gets you in the mood. Gentle aromas of yellow flowers tick along and brighten the longer it is open. A fine minerally feel adds to the faint biscuity presence and fine spice. A rinse of creaminess before things tense up late leaving an apple juice concentrate on close. Wonderful in many ways. Great drinking.
