Spinifex Rostein Shiraz 2018

2018 is the first vintage from this vineyard since we purchased it in 2014 that we felt delivered wines that warranted bottling as estate-grown, single vineyard wines in terms of character and quality. Powerful dark, savoury fruit and strong, compact tannin have been the hallmarks of the Rostein Shiraz to date. Handpicked in three passes over a 10-day period, fully destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeast in both oak and stainless steel fermenters, and macerated for between 10 and 16 days prior to pressing.    Elevage on light lees in barriques and demi-muids, 50% new for 12 months prior to racking and blending,  bottled at 18 months. Vinolok closure.

James Suckling

This has an assertive, red-cherry and blackberry nose with crushed stones, graphite and abundant fragrant spices, buried deep in black fruit. The palate has dense tannins and very intense, concentrated, blackberry and blood-plum flavours. Chiselled, compressed, velvety and powerful. Needs three to four years.
