The Barossa is home to some of the oldest grape vines in the World. Old Vines have unique traits and complexities that winemakers and wine drinkers alike seek out. In 2009, the Barossa Grape and Wine Association adopted the Old Vine Charter. The purpose of the charter is to improve clarity and honesty around what actually qualifies as an Old Vine in Barossa. Although it is not a legal requirement, a majority of producers in Australia have now adopted the charter themselves.
Our Old Vine Tasting event is designed to showcase the remarkable collection of ancient vines that Barossa is renowned for. These vines, some classified under the Barossa Old Vine Charter, are a testament to the region's rich viticultural legacy. The classification includes:
- Old Vines (35+ years)
- Survivor Vines (70+ years)
- Centenarian Vines (100+ years)
- Ancestor Vines (125+ years)
This is an exceptional opportunity to connect with the rich viticultural history that defines our region and to taste wines that embody the essence of Barossa.
