Tasting Note
Vibrant ruby in the glass, perfumed and pretty with aromas of bramble, crushed flower petals and deli meats. Tannins define the shape and feel of this wine, poised, fine and crisp, bringing structure while fruit remains front and centre. Raspberry and black cherry flow alongside star anise and five spice, grounded by lower toned notes of earth and an umami/bonox quality. A medium-bodied and pure expression of Grenache, closing with fine tannins and excellent length.

The Real Review
Viticulture & Winemaking
The Thiele Road Grenache vineyard in Bethany was planted in 1941 by Jason Schwarz’s great-uncle and remains under family ownership. Fruit for the 2023 release was picked on the cool morning of 29 March. 30% was left as whole bunch clusters, layered into fermenters under dry ice, with natural fermentation beginning after seven days.
Gentle pump overs and daily foot stomping of the whole clusters continued through to the end of primary fermentation. After 34 days on skins, the wine was pressed and racked to seasoned French oak puncheons for malolactic fermentation. It was blended in early November and bottled in late November with no fining or filtration.
