Tasting Note

Deep dark fruits are layered with hints of rose, violet and smoky earth. The palate unfolds with black plum, blackberry, blueberry and subtle amaro notes, supported by well defined tannins and finishing long and clean with savoury complexity and slatey minerality.

Mataro sourced from 100-year-old, dry-grown bush vines in Light Pass. Dark plum, mulberry and macerated berry fruit are cut with notes of exotic spice, hanging meats, licorice, earth and light purple floral tones. There is a lovely fruit density and texture here, pure yet savoury edged with tight, sandy tannin support and a spicy red and dark-fruited finish. Proof that mataro is capable
of greatness.

Medium deep crimson. Fresh black cherry, dark plum, ferruginous/graphite aromas with lifted notes. Well balanced and inky deep with ample black cherry, dark plum fruits, fine slinky dry textures, some roasted walnut, panforte notes and long fresh acidity.

The 2021 Annexus Mataro is from a dry-grown sandy vineyard site in Light Pass, planted over 100 years ago. This is spicy and supple, elegant and refined. It has the earthy bedrock that Mataro masters so completely, yet it is offset by a fine-boned framework of pliable tannin. The fruit is purple and forest derived, and it has a perimeter of sandalwood, cumin and blackberry. Super wine. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

From a 100 -year-old vineyard in the Light Pass parish of the Barossa Valley. Chunky but refreshing expression of mataro. Dark cherry, lavender, bay leaf and paprika scents and flavours. Soft texture that grows into a long trail of woody spices with some requisite chew from sandy tannin. It’s a big mouthful but there’s a nice reset with each sip. It gives a dictionary definition of the variety from the region and delivers extra in detail and interest. Truly charming wine.
