An Afternoon With Jason Schwarz
Farmer on Fire is a chance to sit down with Jason and look back over 25 years of Schwarz Wine Co. through the wines themselves.
The afternoon will begin with canapés on arrival, followed by a four-course feast from the Essen kitchen showcasing local Barossa produce. Across the day, guests will taste eight Schwarz Wine Co. wines, including carefully selected releases from Jason’s 25 years of winemaking.
Along the way, Jason will share the stories behind the wines, the vineyards they came from and the growers he has worked with across the Barossa.
25 Years Of Schwarz Wine Co.
Schwarz Wine Co. was established in 2001, but Jason’s story in the Barossa began much earlier.
Growing up on his parents’ property in Bethany, vineyards and farming were part of everyday life. Jason initially studied wine marketing at the University of Adelaide, before time spent travelling and working in wine led him towards winemaking instead.
After returning to the Barossa in 1998, Jason worked in local wineries before beginning to make wine from his family’s vineyards and establishing Schwarz Wine Co.
Over the years, he has built close relationships with growers across different pockets of the Barossa, working with vineyards shaped by different soils, elevations and growing conditions.
From Vineyard To Bottle
For Jason, winemaking starts in the vineyard.
Walking the rows with growers, tasting fruit and understanding each season is central to the way he works. His approach has always been to let the vineyard and vintage lead, producing wines that reflect where they come from rather than forcing them into a particular style.
That connection to the land, the growers and the fruit has remained at the heart of Schwarz Wine Co. for 25 years.
Farmer on Fire brings that story together in one afternoon, with a selection of wines chosen to reflect the journey so far.
