Freya; the foremost goddess of ancient Germanic lands where the Riesling grape originated. This dual vineyard wine honours early German settlers who cultivated the Riesling vine in the exemplary micro-climate of South Australia's Eden Valley.
This is the eight vintage of Freya, and we are proud to be the exclusive retailer of this wine. It is an exceptional example of Eden Valley Riesling with the beginnings of bottle age yet still maintaining amazing freshness and primary character.
Springton area, 40-year-old vines
High Eden sub-region, 15-year-old vines
A dry spring and summer period contributed to a slightly early harvest. The
critical ripening period was classic Eden Valley cool nights and warm dry days.
This enabled slow flavour development and the retention of the natural acidity so
typical of Eden Valley Riesling. The dry conditions also resulted in fruit in pristine
condition contributing to the focussed citrus flavour profile.
Pure lemon citrus aromas lead to citrus zest flavours that are accompanied by a
tight mineral line. The long fine palate is well balanced with crisp natural acidity
typical of exceptional handpicked Eden Valley Rieslings made to a dry style.
The palate is broadening with bottle age and has shown increased viscosity since release. Agin gracefully, with firm acidity, this wine has many more years to develop.
Enjoy now until 2030.
