Tasting Note

Perfumed nose of red fruits and spice – rose hip and dried rose petals overlay ripe raspberry, ripe red cherry, plum, nectarine and delicate cinnamon and mace notes. Intense mid weight palate with glowing red fruits on attack – red plum, raspberry and dried herb flavours – which fuse with plum stone like acids and light stony tannins on a fresh, dry finish.

This is earthy, gravelly, spicy, elegant, pure, textural and silty all at once. The Barossa excels at the expression of these varieties, and this offers an insight both into the region itself and into the very zeitgeist of wine right now. This has been superbly handled; it's fresh and complex, with pomegranate molasses, wet roses, cherry, graphite, licorice, star anise and fresh grated nutmeg (in that warming, spicy way that it has). There are notes of petrichor and wet asphalt too. It's excellent.
