Hobbs of Barossa Gregor Shiraz 2020

$165.00

The fruit for our Gregor is first handpicked, then placed onto racks and semi-dried in the time-honoured ‘Appassimento’ method. This method concentrates the sugars and flavours of the fruit, creating a full-bodied, well-balanced Shiraz. Named in honour of a very fond memory from early in Greg and Allison’s relationship - a skiing instructor who had a hard time pronouncing ‘Gregory’. This wine will always conjure fond memories for the Hobbs family.

Vintage: 2020

Impenetrable deep red, full fruited nose of plum and dark cherry with faint spice a background note.
The definition of quality Barossa, ripe, generous yet finely textured. Swathes of milk chocolate across the palate, fruit is sweet with earthen flare. Lingering spice and plum roll across the palate with a finish that goes on and on. A wine that it is incredibly hard not to like. Drink 2022 - 2040.

Made in an appassimento style, the 2020 Gregor Shiraz goes both deep and long in flavor in the mouth. The wine is an amalgam of roasted meat, clove bud, cinnamon stick, salted licorice, blood plum, rust and earth. A brilliant wine. 15.7% alcohol. Drink 2022 - 2037.

Deep colour. Intense panforte, espresso, prune, fig aromas with spicy, shellac notes. Immensely concentrated wine with abundant panforte, espresso coffee, dried fruit flavours, superb chocolaty textures and underlying marzipan, spicy oak notes. Finishes cedary firm with plentiful liquorice/ aniseed notes. An Appassimento/ Amarone style (made from semi-dried grapes) amplifying fruit impact and density. Drink now – 2030.
