Tasting Note
Fuller in body and more luscious in texture than Riesling, Kerner is wonderfully aromatic with a creamy palate and bright acidity that keeps it fresh, lively and oh-so drinkable. Described as “Riesling on steroids,” this wine is for the foodie, the sommelier, and anyone chasing something different.
Every now and then you encounter a wine that blows your mind. Kerner is one of them. Haven’t heard of it? You’re not alone.

The Story
First planted in 1929 by August Herold as a cross of Riesling and Trollinger, Kerner made its way to the Eden Valley in 2013 when Graeme and Michael Fechner returned from a research trip to Germany with cuttings in hand. After years of experimentation — including field blends like DÜFTE PUNKT — the Fechners released the first KONTRAPUNKT in 2016, bringing Australia (and the Southern Hemisphere) its only varietal Kerner.
Viticulture & Winemaking
Planted in the northern Eden Valley by the Fechner family, Kerner was initially co-fermented with Riesling and Gewürztraminer. KONTRAPUNKT became its own varietal release in 2016. This wine reflects a decade of careful vineyard development and winemaking focus.
