91 points Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion. "I did a couple of vintages with one of the Brothers Lienert 15 years ago. His family has piggies. Hence, the Tierra del Puerco! A cool little grenache rosé. The palest of salmon pinks and bursting with raspberry, red apple and redcurrant fruit notes. Dry and stony, but there's some cool floral, soft spice and watermelon stuff going on too. Great acid drive and dangerously easy to drink."
"This stuff tastes great. Estupendo! Such is the joy of a glass of chilled Rosé (or four) in the springtime.
Made from early picked Grenache grown by my brother John, who I respect knows what he’s doing in the vineyard. In return, he just occasionally provides me what he deems invaluable winemaking advice.
Vivacious and fresh, with a touch of wood time through fermentation for texture and mouthfeel. Strawberries and raspberries jump out of the glass and race up my hooter where they are welcomed like homecoming heroes.
Juicy fresh red berry fruits and sprightly fresh acids cascade across my tongue and down my gullet at great velocity. I smack my lips and say to myself….‘Reality sucks, I’m not going to work tomorrow. It’s bloody lovely and sunny out there. Perfect Rosé weather to boot. Although not so perfect for my pale white skin which has begun to take on a pinkish hue somewhat akin to the Rosé I’m drinking!”
- James Lienert, Winemaker
Vintage: 2022
Grape Variety: Grenache
Region: Barossa Valley - Shea-Oak Log.
The Lienert family landed on the Barossa’s western edge in the 1850s, adopting the lion head as their family crest – a nod to their Prussian heritage and pioneering spirit.
Over the last 20 years, fifth-generation Barossan brothers John and James Lienert have transformed the family farm on the western edge of the Barossa Valley into a viticultural wonderland.
Every grape used to craft a Lienert wine is grown in these vineyards, where the broad blue skies, long sunny days and famed ‘terra rossa’ soils allow generous flavour and solid structure to develop naturally. The role of maker has fallen easily to James, as has grower to John.
A symbiotic coupling of siblings sharing a simple approach to growing grapes and making wine that yields a bloody good drink!
