Lienert Vineyards Estate Grenache 2022

$45.00

They say Grenache is the Barossa’s Pinot… bugger that! Grenache is in a class all on its own.

The first grenache in our estate range is the beginning of a long journey we’re on with this spectacularly fresh and nuanced variety. This is our first attempt, and we’ll continue to push the quality within the vineyard and the winery to make this wine ever more delicious. A showring example of the character of Grenache we grow on our own patch.

The vineyard is my brother John’s playground, and crammed into the small acreage are 9 different clones of Grenache – cuttings taken (legally!) from vineyards in Barossa, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek.

For this first Grenache, we harvested and made each individual parcel separately to determine the different flavour profiles of each clone, specific to our soils and environment. We settled on a mix of Barossa and McLaren Vale clones to make the final blend.

30% of the fruit was fermented whole bunch, and remainder as whole berry. Cooler fermentation temperatures and 6 months in old French oak puncheons on MLF lees where the very simple but defining winemaking approaches taken to achieve the style we were aiming for
