Tasting Note
‘PIQ’, or Piquepoul, is the newest white wine from the Lienert stable. A fresh dry white akin to Eden Valley Riesling, but without all that mucking about in high altitude stuff. In a nutshell, Piquepoul is kind of like Riesling, but with a tantalising ocean mist character about it. Heralding from southern France, this crisp, refreshing white has claimed ‘Official Oyster Wine’ status in its home country, such is the degree to which oysters and Piquepoul are joined at the hip. It does of course, pair equally as well with mussels, abalone, clams and pipis!

I like what the brothers Lienert are doing at the moment. Exhibit A, Your Honour – this crisply formed and thirst-slaking piquepoul. It's not overly complex and not to be pontificated over as you pat your labrador's head as you sit in front of the fire. It's just great briny, vivid drinking, and it carves a lemony/grapefruity path across the palate. It's low in alcohol, and it's sapid, zippy drinking, and sometimes that is just the ticket.
