Schwarz Wine Co. Meta Mataro 2022

$40.00

Wild plum and roast beetroot with a earthy, leathery finish. This wine is medium bodied savoury and intriguing.

Vintage: 2022

Grape Variety: Mataro

Region: Barossa Valley Moppa, Vine Vale, Bethany

All blocks were picked separately according to fruit maturity (between 5 th and 12th April), and fermented with wild yeast in open fermenters. Whole bunch portions were used to give brightness and structure to the wine. In general, the wines were pumped over once daily once fermentation had started and footed stomped towards the end of fermentation to break the skins on the whole bunches. All wines were kept separately until final blending in August 2022.

95 Points

Hand-picked mataro from the parishes of Moppa, Vine Vale and Bethany; wild yeast ferment, 17% whole bunches, unfined and unfiltered. Vibrant, purple magenta in the glass with aromas of blueberry, satsuma plum and mulberry set on a base of exotic spice, pressed flowers, turned earth, roasting meats, amaro and just the right dial setting on the mataro 'garrigue'. Bottom line, it's a pure-fruited, exotic little number with a savoury flow, lovely billowing tannins and an air of effortless drinkability. Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
