The Artisans of the Barossa is a community of eight unique wine brands, formed to showcase their commitment to small-batch Barossa winemaking. Our alignment of these eight winemakers means you can taste over 100 Barossa wines under one roof – an opportunity often unavailable to small wine producers.
Each of our Artisan winemakers offer something different, and we are proud to showcase their craft.
The story of Sons of Eden
Sons of Eden was established in 2000 by one of Australia’s most accomplished winemakers, Corey Ryan, partnering with hugely respected viticulturist Simon Cowham. Between them, they have over 50 Barossa vintages under their belt.
Corey has heavily influenced wine in the Barossa, producing world-class wines for many labels, including the iconic Eden Valley producer Henschke. At the same time, Simon has spent many years in vineyards, including at Yalumba.
Quality fruit is hand-picked from thirty vineyard sites across the Barossa and Eden Valley. These sites are managed directly by Simon or sourced from generational grape growers passionate about sustainability. Sons of Eden are big on long-care sustainability and are always at the forefront of anything they do. They want these vineyards to be passed down to the next generation.
The style of winemaking for Sons of Eden is a ‘hands-off approach’ – meaning the vineyard should be able to express its distinct personality through every sip. In the winemaking shed, grapes are hand-plunged, and natural fermentation is followed – allowing the quality fruit to shine through.
Simon and Corey sum up their philosophy perfectly, ‘The bottle is a depiction of the final style; a signature of its site, the climate and its management.’
Reasons to love Sons of Eden.
These are wines with texture, flavour intensity, and a balanced mouth feel – what’s not to love? We also love the mix of traditional old-world winemaking (like the Shiraz, Grenache or Mourvèdre) with new-world approaches.
At the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards, the Sons of Eden ROMULUS old vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019 and Sons of Eden REMUS old vine Eden Valley Shiraz 2019 both scored 97 points and a Platinum Medal before going on to win DUAL Best in Show.
