Tasting notes:
Pours a varietally correct dark ruby shade. Out of the blocks with aromas of strawberry compote, fresh forest berries and prosciutto, revealing rose petals with more air. On the palate, we get stewed and fresh rhubarb and wild blackberries/forest berries, though it’s the crisp tannic lines which define this vineyard are perhaps its most striking element. Medium bodied, full power with no shortage of concentration and complexity, a
beautifully pitched, weighted and structured release.
Viticulture & Winemaking:
The Thiele Road Grenache vineyard in Bethany was planted in 1941 and is still owned by my family. Harvested on a cool morning, 14th March 2024, from the Thiele Road vineyard. 12% whole bunch was included to bring aromatic lift and fine structure. The remaining fruit was destemmed and fermented naturally with wild yeast in open fermenters. Gentle pump overs and hand plunging were carried out over 12 days. The wine was then pressed to French oak puncheons for 12 months, building texture and complexity while preserving the vineyard’s pure Grenache character.
